1 Peter 3:15 exhorts all Christians to always be ready to share good reasons for their faith and hope in Christ with gentleness and respect. The building of gentleness and respect in one’s witness to achieve productive evangelism requires 1) a commitment to develop a broad spectrum of good reasons for one’s Christian faith, 2) a commitment to share those reasons on a regular basis, 3) a focus on developing all the fruits of the Holy Spirit, 4) showing hospitality, active listening, and compassion, 5) developing skills in asking questions that reveal spiritual needs, 6) listening to feedback from fellow believers and non-believers about where one’s gentleness and respect can be improved, and 7) developing awareness of cultural barriers and developing skills in overcoming cultural barriers.
